Litigants

If the Los Angeles County Superior Court grants a litigant a fee waiver on the case they are filing into, then upon clicking the confirm fee calculation link at the bottom of the filing, the system will show $0.00 in fees.

The system does not allow a filer to manually select a fee exemption on most documents. The only documents that include the option for the filer to “Request” a fee Waiver are those deemed first papers, e.g. Answers, Responses, and General Denials.

In order for a filer to be fee exempt with say an Application and Order for Appearance and Examination, the court would already need to have granted fee waiver to that filer on the case, and that waiver would need and be on file with the court. You will not have the option at the time of filing for the Application and Order for Appearance and Examination to be exempt from filing fees.

Government Entities

For Government entities, the same principle applies. If the litigant is properly established in the case as a government entity, then clicking the confirm fee calculation link at the bottom of the filing returns $0.00 for fee documents.
